Following the baseline survey conducted in 2008, at the onset of the project, many meetings were carried out with the Basti women, which guided the project team in the design of various urban services and facilities.
Various safe and recreational spaces like the Mothers’ Park, Gymnasium have been created in the Basti keeping in mind the women’s requirement. The Park contains outdoor exercise equipments, which the women use frequently in the safe environs. Both the toilet blocks have separate units for women which also act as a community space for them. The water-points, lighting and better infrastructure along the streets leading to places like the parks, polyclinics, toilets etc. have ensured that these critical facilities are ably used by the women.
