Housing improvement works included Structural repairs & retrofitting, Household Water & sanitation, Elevations, Improving light, ventilation & water proofing. Retrofitting works constitute very delicate technical interventions - indeed, if poorly executed, it can lead to the collapse of the building. For this reason, these works require highly trained workers. Extensive structural repairs were carried out in one of the houses in the Basti as a demonstration for retrofitting techniques that can be used in the Basti for strengthening existing buildings. One third of the cost was born by the householder, while AKTC bore 60% of the cost of construction.
