As was visible in archival images, the gateway originally had sandstone lattice screens in the arched nichesover the doorways and parapets. During the earlier conservation efforts, these screens werereplaced with cement screens at many places, therefore severely disfiguring the historical significance ofthe structure and making it unsafe. During the conservation project undertaken by AKTC in 2012-13, these cement screens were replaced with hand chiseled sandstone screens.

The existing parapet screens were studied for details like sizes and shapes of the parapet. The screenswere then hand crafted by master craftsmen. All parapet lattice screens have now been installed in the arched openings of the Gateway.
