Nizamuddin Basti : Parks

Though over 5 acres of open park spaces existed along the western edge of Nizamuddin Basti, these were encroached by rag-pickers and drug users, poorly maintained and as a result under 2% of the resident population used park spaces for recreational purposes. Following sustained community consultation a landscape scheme for these parks was prepared and the parks developed for specific use, such as children’s play area, a screened park for the exclusive use of women, a park for community events and a play field for youth related activities. The parks are now managed by the community and landscape works are being initiated on parks on the northern and eastern end of the basti as well.

Open Space Development

After successfully developing two parks for the community – Mother and Child Park and the Central Park, AKTC has finished landscaping works on the third DDA park in the Basti. The park will be inaugurated by Shri Ajay Chaudhary, Additional Commissioner of Police, South-East District, Delhi Police in the presence of Shri Farhad Suri, Leader of the Opposition, South Delhi Municipal Corporation on 12-October 2012.
