Environment Development

The project proposes to carry forward the very successful garden restoration and environmental development of Humayun’s Tomb to other key sites within the project area. AKDN environmental development initiatives are in partnership and consultation with the land owning government agencies in the Humayun’s Tomb-Nizamuddin Basti- Sunder Nursery project area.
The environmental development initiatives include a major re-development of Sunder Nursery into an urban park with a significant ecological resource, the landscaping and ecological treatment of the Barahpulah nallah in Nizamuddin Basti and the rehabilitation and development of the Nila Gumbad parkland besides landscaping of urban parks within Nizamuddin Basti.
Work in Sunder Nursery and the development of urban parks in Hazrat Nizamuddin Basti is already underway. As part owners of the land around Nila Gumbad, Northern Railways sanction to landscape and develop the area into a green buffer to the World Heritage Site is awaited following requests first made in October 2007.
Landscape around the Nila Gumbad area will be designed to provide a sensitive setting

Ongoing Works
Humayun's Tomb Complex
Nila Gumbad stands adjoining Humayun's Tomb and is the earliest Mughal period monument in Delhi, significant also for its unique tilework...
Unfortunately, after being segregated from the Humayun's Tomb complex in the 1980's by the construction of a road, on ASI land, the monument has suffered much neglect and vandalism...
Sunder Nursery
More than just a green space in the heart of the city, the Sunder Nursery literally in the midst of history.
The monuments that stand here, mostly dating from the Akbari-era are being carefully conserved using traditional materials and building crafts...
Nizamuddin Basti
The poor sanitation conditions directly affect all; residents and pilgrims visiting the basti.
Upgrading and replacement of sewers has also been undertaken by AKTC in partnership with the MCD and the DJB(Delhi Jal Board)...
